Just One Year by Penelope Ward
I love me some Penelope Ward. I'm usually the first in line when a book drops, but this one for me, just lacked in keeping me engaged. I wanted to love Caleb and Teagan but it seemed like by the time I started getting into and them they went their separate ways.
I can say I did enjoy them both separately. I thought Teagan in the beginning was cold and untouchable, but as she warmed up and opened up I found she was actually strong and had the potential to love beyond measure. I loved that she found herself and was able to be strong for the people she considered family. I would've loved to get to dive into Caleb's life and head just a little bit more. The time when he was away, it just seemed like so much happened and we didn't get to be part of that journey. I think if we had the opportunity to watch him learn and grow and figure out his issues I would have felt a lot closer.
I think we all go through this as reader. I love Ms. Ward and her writing will always be at the top of my list. She has this way to make you laugh with her words and to make you feel like you are taking the journey with her characters.
Fake It Til You Meagan Brandy
Its funny I started this book because I love this author. Her words just pull me in and I become addicted with every page I turn. This book started out a little different. I have to say I wasn't instantly enamored with it as I usually am with books from this author. It took a little time for me, but I can tell you this...once your in this book will take over. I found myself consumed with anything that resolved around Nico and Demi. They were an addiction that I needed to follow through with.
Nico might have been a man of few words, but when he spoke you listened. You knew there was something deeper going on with him and Demi. She might have not known it, but when Nico decided to go after something he did it with some gusto. It was hard to tell if he was in it for the win or just to be a guy. Trust me when I say there was plenty of times I hated him. I wanted him to prove himself and several times I was let down and with that said when he makes a comeback its with a vengeance.
Its funny because usually I pay no attention to the female in the book, but Demi at times had me screaming at her. To open her eyes and realize what was right in front of her. I love the fact that she was a little distrustful, but when Nico the star of everything has his eyes on you its time to open up a little and let go of all the things that hold you back.
As you can see Ms. Brandy has a way to make you entwine yourself with her words. I didn't feel like I was reading a book I felt like I was living it. Her words seduce your eyes to the pages all the while you are trying to figure out how the book is going to end.
